eremos - diary of a (sort of) hermit

ongoing creation (revisited)

"God is creating the entire universe fully and totally in this present now. Everything God created six thousand years ago... God is creating now all at once." - Mechtild of Magdeburg

I've decided to revisit and rewrite yesterday's blog as it ended up with me sounding like I was trying to be a theologian, which I am definitely not. I was trying to explain the basics of what I understood from an online Zoom meeting I took part in (from my hermitage of course).

The truth is that there was such a lot to take in that I will need to re-watch the recording when it's available, and even then, it felt like one of those subjects that grows on you over time; perhaps even over years, and, while our human curiosity will always want to understand God, the reality is that this is not possible and is one of the reasons why I am attracted to some Orthodox teachings as they are largely perfectly happy to leave God as mystery, unlike in the West where we do our best to work out whether a miracle, for example, is real.

And in some ways, that is probably what this topic was all about; that creation didn't just happen a very long time ago, but is happening now, this very second. It has been said that God breathes life into us and that means that God is still creating otherwise everything would cease to exist.

It's a difficult topic and one that I still struggle to fully grasp. so I will post this now and move on and leave you with this saying from the Apostle Paul

“For in him we live and move and have our being.”
