presence
Presence
Emerging from light
you brush against me with your silence,
unseen daffodil,
voice of a blackbird ...
something in my heart responds
Sister Mary Agnes (from 'Harvest' published by Guillemot press)
Sister Mary Agnes was not a solitary as such but was a nun in the contemplative order of Poor Clares in Devon. This poem and booklet came following her leaving this life and continued to write but not publish. This booklet is from that material.
I was drawn to her poetry even before I started to practice Christian contemplation. I am still not sure what drew me to it but there is something very quiet, yet at the same time something very deep and contemplative about many of her poems which often focus on silence as well. As I didn't post a blog yesterday, I thought this would be a nice one to post to get things going again.
My plan for the day is to read and meditate awhile and then plant some bulbs that will grow (hopefully like me), hidden in silence before bursting into colour in the spring. I will also cook something simple today, probably a Greek Lenten soup to compensate for the richer food from last night's meal with friends.
