the wind in the pine (?) trees
"No writing on the solitary, meditative dimensions of life can say anything that has not already been said better by the wind in the pine trees." - Thomas Merton
For the last couple of weeks or so, I've been very much a hermit, spending most of my time in my 'hermitage' (forget the idea of a little wooden shack a la Thoreau .. it really isn't that). I'm not sure why but walking has slipped off my 'to do' list recently and I decided it was time to venture out for a short walk in a quiet place not too far away on the bus. One of the reasons I like this walk is the pond there. It isn't large but it is usually very quiet with few, if any, visitors. Today, I was the only one and that is why this quote came to mind.
For the first time in a few weeks, I could hear the birds singing (as much as they do when it's colder anyway) and also the wind in the trees and the leaves, ready to fall, having one last dance on the branches.
And .. seemingly in meditation, I saw a heron too.
